“When the recent call came in to help 11 hound dogs whose owner had been incarcerated, we knew we had to get involved,” said Jessie Sullivan, Director of Adoptions and Alternative Services at SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center (SICSA). With the assistance of Ruff Transport, an all-volunteer organization in Dayton, Ohio that helps bridge the gap for animals needing a ride to rescue, the hound dogs were brought to SICSA where they each received a medical exam, vaccines, flea treatments, de-wormer, and a heartworm test.
SICSA is supporting an effort to rehome these dogs before they need to enter an already overcrowded shelter system. They are currently living in outdoor kennels with a temporary caregiver. “There are eight of the 11 dogs who still need homes, and they range in age from 18 months to young adult – with one, sweet senior dog who is approximately 10 to 12 years old,” stated Sullivan. “Their weights range from 35 to 60 pounds, and while this situation is unfortunate, these dogs are lucky to have people advocating for them, and we’re hoping all of them find new, loving homes.”
These dogs are not available for adoption at SICSA, but SICSA’s Help Center is working with a family member to facilitate this rehoming process. “Through the generosity of donors, SICSA is able to provide this type of assistance,” said Sullivan. “Our Help Center offers a variety of programs and services to help families and their pets.” For more information about these dogs, call SICSA’s Help Center at (937) 294-6505, option 5.
