Meet Wonder, a big puppy with an interesting story.
At just 5 months old, Wonder came to SICSA from another animal shelter. It was immediately clear that this handsome boy was different. Oddly, he had hair growing from his cornea and a few other obscure spots near his eyes- a condition known as Dermoids. While the fluffy tufts of hair outside of his eyes were adorable, the one obstructing his vision was causing ulcers and would require surgery. He has since received this treatment and overcome that obstacle. However, his external condition was just the surface of the struggle he faced.
After a consultation with a cardiologist, it was determined that Wonder had not one, but two congenital heart defects. First is his Sub-Aortic Stenosis (SAS). This is a condition where there is an obstruction of blood flow from the heart to the aorta. The obstruction is typically due to developmental abnormalities in the area of the heart. Wonder’s SAS has been classified as severe. On top of this, Wonder has Mitral Valve Dysplasia- a condition where the mitral valve develops abnormally and is therefore not able to perform properly. Due to these conditions, Wonder’s life expectancy is 1 to 5 years.
Though his time may be shorter than we would like, we are determined to find Wonder a loving home where he can enjoy his life to the absolute fullest. He is currently being loved, spoiled, and trained by his incredible foster family. When he isn’t at home, Wonder is busy making friends with everyone he meets. His adorable face, goofy personality, and playful spirit make him impossible to ignore. In a word, he is Wonder-ful.
Please, help us find Wonder’s new home by sharing his information with friends. We are certain the right home for our special boy is out there, and we can’t wait for him to it. If you or someone you know is interested in adding Wonder to your family, check out his adoption profile here.
