2021 Recap: A Pawesome Year for Pets in Need!

While 2021 saw its challenges, SICSA was grateful to break personal records and step up for our community in big ways over the past twelve months.

Our Adoptions team placed 2,153 pets into loving forever homes in 2021. 730 of these pets were dogs, and the remaining 1,423 were cats. Our previous record for placements in one year was 2,039 pets in 2019. We beat this by 114 dogs and cats this year thanks to the incredible adopters in our community!

Our Community Veterinary Care Program also launched in 2021, offering wellness services to pet owners in need. This program aims to keep pets with their loving owners by giving them the veterinary care they may otherwise go without, thus avoiding preventable complications later in the pet’s life. Through four clinics, our veterinary team, along with the help of volunteers, served hundreds of pet owners in the greater Dayton community!

Our Help Center continued to serve pets and people in need through behavioral and medical support, education and resources, TNR surgeries, and Safe Pets placements. Safe Pets are pets SICSA takes in temporarily while their owner is escaping domestic violence, finding secure housing, experiencing medical complications, navigating a disaster, or facing a financial crisis. This allows people who may otherwise have to surrender a pet they deeply love to keep them, thus keeping animals from unnecessarily entering the animal sheltering system.

Overall, SICSA has been learning, growing, and expanding our impact to best serve the people and pets of our community and beyond. We look forward to furthering our mission in 2022. This is just a small peek at all that happened with SICSA and our community in 2021, so keep an eye out for our upcoming Annual Report to learn more about SICSA’s progress throughout the past year!
