Guardian Angel Spotlight: Jovie

When a good Samaritan found Jovie as a stray, we assumed someone must be desperately looking for her. She was young, friendly as could be, seemed well cared for, and appeared perfectly healthy at first glance. However, as Jovie remained in our care, we realized she was a much more complicated case than we initially believed.

In fact, Jovie’s medical case was so complex that we couldn’t possibly write a coherent story around it. So, here’s the short version: After many, many tests and trips to the vet, our veterinary staff diagnosed Jovie with bilateral hip dysplasia, a CCL injury, a liver shunt, and possible liver disease. Jovie was with us for six months and had over thirty documented veterinary exams during that time, including a few trips to a veterinary internist for an ultrasound and surgery with a specialist. Overall, SICSA invested over $2,000 in Jovie’s medical care alone.

Thankfully, our Guardian Angel fund exists for cases just like this. When animals come to SICSA with specialized medical or behavioral needs, supporters of the Guardian Angel fund give them a fighting chance. And, thanks to that chance, we’re happy to report that Jovie cleared for adoption! Her new owner has over a decade’s worth of experience working in a vet clinic. This was truly the ideal happy ending for our medically complicated princess!

Jovie is just one of dozens of pets whose lives were forever changed thanks to Guardian Angels’ generosity. You can become a Guardian Angel today–simply donate here, and help us make stories like Jovie’s possible for years to come.
